Kay Bain Weiner Glass Art Educational Foundation
Kay Bain Weiner, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award 2006 in the Glass Art industry, has formed a non-profit Educational Foundation to promote public awareness, and cultivate the growth of the Glass Art industry.

Mission of the Foundation

The mission of the Kay Bain Weiner Educational Foundation, known as the KBW Foundation, is to stimulate interest and growth in the industry through educational projects. One of the goals of the group is to attract more people into the glass arena by providing scholarships, supplies and books to high schools, colleges and other educational venues. Retailers, studios, artists, manufacturers, publishers, distributors and interested parties can benefit by getting involved with this industry growth movement.

Board Members

Board members include Bill Bird, Jacqui Bush, PattyCerajewski, Maureen James, Wil Menzies, Lori Mitchell, Ann Sanborne, Debbie Weiner, Herb and Kay Bain Weiner.

Past Accomplishments

The foundation sponsored a dinner event held during the Glass Craft & Bead Expo 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Featured were 2-hour lectures and PowerPoint presentations by five presenters. A silent auction for glass industry products was also held to benefit the foundation.

Scholarships were presented by the foundation to five candidates to attend classes and workshops at the Glass Craft & Bead Expo held in Las Vegas in March 2007.

The Foundation, with cooperation of glass art publishers, has distributed over 2,000 surplus books and magazines, patterns, videos, CDs and books to schools, senior citizen centers, and adult education centers over the past year.

Goals of the Foundation

  • Offer additional scholarships yearly to attend various glass conferences or seminar groups held in the US.
  • Promote and encourage glass craft classes at public schools, colleges and continuing education facilities, senior citizen centers, YMCA’s, and summer camps.
  • KBW Foundation will supply surplus supplies and books donated by manufacturers and publishers to various public schools and educational facilities.
  • Create a national directory of teachers and schools that offer glass art classes.
  • Apply for government educational grants to promote glass art through educational projects.

Future Projects

  • Encourage glass artists to apply for artist-in-residence workshops in schools or help set up such programs.
  • Glass Artists and retailers to arrange glass art show exhibitions in their facilities or in libraries, banks, restaurants, theatres, hospitals, galleries, community centers, museums, schools and public institutions and foyers of private industry.
  • Two scholarships are presently offered for Hot Glass Horizons to be held in Portland, Oregon, October 24th, 2007.
  • One scholarship has been awarded to attend a workshop at the Metal Clay World Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada in August.

Management of Funds

The foundation is compiled of a team of glass business owners and manufacturers who donate their time and resources. An anonymous benefactor is donating $50,000 in matching funds to the foundation, and we are looking to raise an additional $50,000 from within the industry to reach the foundation’s goal of $100,000.
